Training

Changes for 2011

In 2011 we hope to make some changes to the training sessions being offered by the Old Crossleyans. It has been recognised by the committee that everyone pays their annual subscription and weekly subs and therefore the club have a responsibility to provide suitable training sessions, and where applicable equipment, to it's members. We propose training in 2011 will be;
  • Organised
  • Inclusive to all
  • Skills, Technique and Fitness orientated
  • Relevant
  • Interesting
  • Challenging
  • Fun
Why change? - in recent years (on occasion) training has more resembled a slogging session or a social chit-chat where people have turned up for 20mins for a 'whack and a chat' and then gone home. If the club are to improve and offer better training then the participants need to also have a change in attitude/approach to these sessions. Any changes that take place are for the benefit of the club and the individuals involved so a collective change in attitude needs to happen. It is also important for everyone making the effort to train regularly that training has a bearing on selection, and peoples roles in the teams, at a weekend - train hard and impress the captains and you should be rewarded.

Finally, it is important that training is enjoyable. We don't want to rule out the social side of things and recognise the importance of team spirit so please don't think any changes won't be enjoyable - please, have an open mind and get involved.

Also, we understand people can't make training sometimes, if thats the case, please let one of the captains know!

Winter Indoor Training 2011

Our traditional 'nets' have been replaced with 'Indoor Training' for 2011. The reason for this is simple, not every week will we be simply lining up in the nets bowling as fast (and in some cases as short/dangerously) as possible. The traditional nets will be interspursed with other sessions such as, fielding drills, fitness weeks and (more exciting for some) organised indoor cricket.

The winter nets start at 20:45 on Thursday 13th January 2011 at Brooksbank school. Juniors of age 14 and over are welcome to come along and join in, if they so wish to. The nets cost £2 for adults and £1 for juniors, students, and unemployed adults.

Indoor Cricket

We are going to be experimenting with playing some indoor cricket at some of the Winter Nets in 2011. The aim of this is fourfold;
  • Have a change from tradional netting every week
  • Build up some competitiveness and team spirit
  • Address batting, bowling and fielding for all players
  • To have some fun!!

Indoor Cricket - Rules

In order to play properly and to make the start of the game as simple as possible, here are the rules we will be playing to.....
  • 3 Teams and 1 umpire.
  • All players involved at all times – 1 team bats, 1 team bowls and the other team fields.
  • The ball is live at all times.
  • Each innings lasts 5 minutes

Batting Team
  • 2 people open batting with remainder of the batsmen behind the stumps at the bowlers end.
  • When a batsman is out the remaining batsman must make it to the strikers end to face the next ball.
  • The new batsman will be at the non strikers end
  • Runs are scored as follows – back wall on full – 6 runs, back wall not on full – 4 runs, side wall and back wall – 1 run, any completed run – 2 runs. Minus 5 if anybody is out
  • One hand off the wall – even for 6’s.
  • Batting side keeps rotating until the 5 minutes is up.

Bowling Team
  • Each person bowls in turn – stand in line at the bowlers end.
  • Anything down the leg side is a wide and 2 runs to the batting team.
  • Only the bowler who bowled can field – all other bowlers hit are 4/6 runs.

Fielding Team
  • Spread out.
  • Overthrows count, so backing up is important.

Team with the highest individual innings wins
